Dooars: Hidden Gem of West Bengal
Dooars is a place where nature has kept its doors open for the outsiders. This alluvial floodplain is known for being the gateway to the North-Eastern India, Bhutan and the hill stations of Sikkim and North Bengal Region like Darjeeling. Blessed with dense natural forests, lush green tea gardens, meandering river stream like Teesta, Torsha, Jaldhaka, and Kaljani. Dooars has become an favourite spot for the nature lovers.
Visit the Buxa Tiger Reserve, which has the second-highest numbers of tigers after Sundarbans. Although there hasn’t been an official tiger sighting since 2002, you will be graced by the occasional presence of clouded leopard and wild bison.
Famous for its tea gardens, forests and the River Teesta, it is ideal for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. The region is known for its wildlife sanctuaries where one can spot herds of deer, one-horned rhinos, elephants, guars and reptiles.
Then there’s Jaldapara National Park which is situated on the Alipurduar district, on the bank of Torsa River. Travellers from far and wide travel towards Jaldapara for its exquisite collection of birds. You might even spot some rare birds like Bengal Florican and Rufous Necked Hornbill here. Do not miss the elephant safari as well.
